Protect period product access and education for Canadians
Tell elected officials to renew and expand the Menstrual Equity Fund and support stigma-busting period education and access to period products.
1 in 6 Canadians experience period poverty and 3 in 4 northern Indigenous kin have issues accessing menstrual products in their Communities. And 65% of Canadian menstruators either did not receive any or adequate menstrual-health education. In 2023, the Government of Canada launched the Menstrual Equity Pilot to make period products free and deliver menstrual health education. However, the funding for this program is set to expire in March 2027.
The work can’t stop here. Without renewed investment, communities will lose access to programs that help people make informed decisions, participate in school and work, and access the menstrual products they need with dignity.
Help us urge the Government of Canada to renew and expand the Menstrual Equity Fund to continue vital programs that make menstrual products and education accessible to people across Canada, including people living in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.
Menstrual Equity Matters
Period poverty affects people in every province and territory. Today, 1 in 6 people who menstruate in Canada experiences period poverty, and in northern Indigenous communities, 74% report challenges accessing period products. Without access to these essential products, people miss school or work, withdraw from community life, or face preventable health risks. Menstrual equity is fundamental to health, education, economic participation, and dignity.
The Menstrual Equity Fund Delivers
The Menstrual Equity Fund has made it possible to provide 124 million period products to Canadians, and provide foundational menstruation education to over 70,000 people in 300+ communities while generating awareness of menstrual health and period stigma.
What’s At Risk?
Without renewed funding after March 2027, many Canadians will lose access to period products, even as affordability pressures continue to grow. Education programs will be dramatically reduced at a time when more Canadians than ever are seeking reliable menstrual health information. The need has not disappeared. Neither should the solution.
What We’re Asking For
The Education Partners in the Menstrual Equity Fund Pilot are urging the federal government to:
- Renew the Menstrual Equity Fund beyond the 2026–27 fiscal year.
- Continue investing in free access to period products, prioritizing vulnerable and low-income communities across Canada.
- Sustain funding for menstrual health education and awareness initiatives that increase knowledge and normalize conversations about periods.
Continued federal investment will help ensure every person in Canada can access the products, education, and dignity they deserve.

From youth-serving agencies and shelters to Indigenous organizations, schools, and community health programs, partners are creating period-friendly spaces and ensuring people can access both products and education.
